Canada’s got some of the most incredible roads in all of North America. Even better, it’s got some of the best motorcycle routes. From roads running alongside dramatic coastal scenery to roads that are themselves the main attraction, you’re spoiled for choices when it comes to planning your next motorcycle trip.
The Pacific Rim Highway, Vancouver Island
Of course, why not start with both? Take the B.C. Highway 4, often just called the Pacific Rim Highway, from Qualicum Beach to Tofino. The route’s just gorgeous. Majestic mountain views, rivers, and man, the forest! It’s really old-growth stuff. Much of this route is through places that are like green tunnels, with the sun totally blocked out above you. It’s kind of other-worldly.
And the road itself’s a blast! Do you like twisties? This is the road trip for you. There’s also a roller coaster of rises and descents, and a random assortment of blind corners, just to keep things interesting. It’s one of those motorcycle rides you don’t ever forget.
The Cabot Trail, Nova Scotia
If you’re looking for a good ride around Cape Breton Island, take the Cabot Trail. It sticks pretty close to the ocean, so you’ll have some nice ocean breezes and a sea view, and frequent opportunities to stop at a beach. The Trail runs through some old mountains, much smaller than the Canadian Rockies. Or, in other words, they’re just mountainy enough to be fun without being too much of a challenge. This one’s technically a day trip. However, there are so many interesting places you may find you take more than one.
The Sea to Sky Highway, Vancouver
Do you know why it’s called the Sea to Sky Highway? Because it runs from the ocean to dizzying mountain vistas in a series of steep climbs and descents. It’s the kind of route where brake check pullouts are a regular feature of the road. And as if that weren’t enough, there are all the twisties and the hairpin turns. The road gets especially fun out past Pemberton as you head north.
Route 114, New Brunswick
Take Route 114 just outside of Sussex and head toward Fundy National Park. The road’s nice and windy, and there are some steep sections and sharp turns. There’s some nice gentle riding in sections, too. You’ll travel through majestic forests, along scenic rivers, and through a variety of small towns that you really should stop at. You’ll find some great restaurants with some of the best cooking in Canada. The Bay of Fundy, at the end of the journey, is quite a sight.
Feel the Allure of the Open Road
Canadian roads offer some unforgettable motorcycle routes. Avid motorcyclists should go explore some of them at the earliest opportunity. Don’t save it for a bucket list, get out there and hit the road today! And before you start, head on over to FFUN Motorcycle Company to make sure that you and your bike are ready for the trip.
