Cold weather and moisture can eventually damage your motorcycle. It's recommended to store your vehicle in a climate-controlled room to avoid problems such as corrosion and dead batteries. After a long winter, it's just as important to properly start the motorcycle to ensure safety. Read the tips below to help ensure your motorcycle is ready for the road.

Inspect the Tires for Wear and Tear

Before using the bike for the first time, motorcyclists must inspect the tires for any cracks or damage. Book a service if you think the tires need to be replaced. Your tires may also have lost their air pressure after sitting in the storage unit for several weeks. Make sure the air pressure is at the correct level before starting the bike.

Replace Damaged Spark Plugs

Spark plugs are important components of your motorcycle, for they ignite the air and fuel mixture. You can improve fuel efficiency and avoid problems on the road when the spark plugs are in good condition. If you see signs of damage, get a replacement.

Test the Batteries

Check the motorcycle battery for any fluid leaks or cracks. If the case appears bulged, we recommend getting a new battery for your motorcycle. Don't forget to also test your battery using voltmeters or multimeters to ensure it's still in good condition.

Don't Forget the Brakes

You may need new brakes if you see visible signs of wear and tear or hear high-pitched screeching when pressing the brake pedal. If the pads are worn out, the exposed metal can produce excess heat and damage the entire braking system, leading to more repairs down the road.

Change the Oil

Did you change the motorcycle's oil before winter storage? If you do not, the oil can break down easily. Unless you change it before using the motorcycle in the spring, the oil can affect your vehicle's efficiency. Get an oil change to lubricate your motorcycle's engine properly. Before going on your first ride after the winter, we recommend checking the fluid levels, fuel system, belts and chains, carburetor, lights, gear and controls. Most importantly, ensure your motorcycle gets regular maintenance to avoid a costly repair or a replacement. If you need service, please don't hesitate to get in touch with FFun Motorcycle today.
