Exploring the Open Road: Top Motorcycle Road Trip Destinations Near Saskatchewan

When you're taking a road trip through Canada, there's nothing like breathing in the open space of the Canadian prairies. If you're a lover of nature and motorcycles, the province of Saskatchewan is one of the most enjoyable places in Canada to take your bike out and hit the open road. There's a reason Saskatchewan is called the Land of the Living Skies, and it's because of all that open space between Alberta and Manitoba that lets drivers truly appreciate the natural beauty of Canada.

Combining Cities and Open Space

Depending on your location in Canada, you'll find several great motorcycle road trip destinations that give bikers challenging roads and picturesque views. When you're motorcycle touring, you want to find areas that fit with both your skill level and the main things that you value in nature. If you're interested in city viewing, for example, you might want to complete the Saskatoon-Moose Jaw-Regina Circle. This represents three of the four largest cities in Saskatchewan (leaving out Prince Albert), so you'll see plenty of city views and prairie on your ride. You can even enjoy the speed of the Trans-Canada Hwy, where you can hit 110 kilometres per hour while taking in some of the prettiest skies in North America.

Hitting the National Parks

If your vision of a Saskatchewan motorcycle road trip focuses more on the beauty of a national park or provincial park, you'll want to make sure you're comfortable on gravel roads. Grasslands National Park, for example, is only accessible by gravel roads. But it's well worth the experience because it's home to the Rock Creek Badlands, which offer some of the most beautiful views around the Rocky Mountains.

During the summer, you can make this a full trip by taking the Badlands Parkway during the day and then setting up at one of the campgrounds on site in the park. It's one of the best ways to experience both Saskatchewan and what makes getting on the motorcycle a truly special experience.

Taking the Scenic Route

Going north into Saskatchewan means plenty of wildlife available to see, and one of the best places to do it is at Waskesiu National Park. If you're looking for colour on the scenic route, this is one of the best ways to do it. In the spring and summer, you'll enjoy some of the prettiest shades of green and yellow as the crops of the prairie start to come in. During the fall, you'll see some of Canada's most golden landscapes as the natural beauty of Saskatchewan really starts to shine.

Beyond the landscapes, you might also notice a few animal visitors along the backroads. Wolves, deer, moose and elks have all been known to show up along the scenic route, and one of the simplest pleasures of a motorcycle road trip is being able to pause and take in wildlife in its natural habitat.

No matter what your off-road pleasures are, you'll find something that matches your style in Saskatchewan. There's a reason so many bikers from Winnipeg to Calgary look to come here to enjoy their ride.
